Guerrilla Marketing Books Jay Conrad Levinson

Jay Conrad Levinson wrote his first Guerrilla Marketing book in 1983 and it was published in 1984.

It became a major success as it was the first marketing book especially written for small businesses who didn't have huge advertising and sales promotion budgets.

The essence of Guerrilla Marketing is that it is for business people with big dreams but tiny budgets.

In the last twenty five years Jay Levinson has written many more Guerrilla Marketing books and he now collaborates with many more authors to widen the scope of Guerrilla Marketing. Jay openly admits that he does little or no writing in these books so the quality can vary and the synergy with the main Guerrilla Marketing concepts as I understand them also varies.

I Am A Certified Guerrilla Marketing Coach

I must make it clear that I am not an entirely neutral observer and I am making it a duty to read and comment on as many of the Guerrilla Marketing books as possible.

After all it doesn't look very good if a prospective client has deliberately sought a Guerrilla Marketing Coach after reading a particular book and I have to admit that I haven't even looked at it, let alone read it.

However I want you to focus on what I see as the best Guerrilla Marketing books and not necessarily the most popular. Below are fairly short summaries of the Guerrilla Marketing books and links to my extended reviews either on my main Business Coaching Blog or on my Business Books Review Blog.

Guerrilla Marketing Fourth Edition

The original Guerrilla Marketing book from 1984 has been revised three times and the Fourth Edition was published in 2007.

This book is entirely written by Jay Levinson and has to be regarded as the definitive source for the general concept of Guerrilla Marketing.

The content of the book is excellent and with the Guerrilla Marketing Weapons (marketing tactics and techniques) now increased to a list of 200, it is very up-to-date with plenty of ideas for Internet marketing including blogs, podcasts and social networking.

I have given this Guerrilla Marketing book my highest rating of 5 stars because of the content and the importance of the information it contains.

The only negative I have with the book is a presentational issue since it is very dense - small type, little white space and few diagrams or illustrations.

The Guerrilla Marketing Handbook

This Guerrilla Marketing book is an early collaboration between Jay Levinson and Seth Godin who has become a leading marketing thinker and author in his own right.

The book was published in 1994 as a practical, hands-on guide to putting together marketing campaigns using the key principles of Guerrilla Marketing.

For traditional marketing campaigns, it is an excellent source of advice for direct mail, Yellow Page adverts, postcard marketing and many other established techniques.

What it lacks is any focus on Internet marketing so you need to be aware of that although there is a specialist Guerrilla Marketing On The Internet book which you can use to supplement the Guerrilla Marketing Handbook.

Guerrilla Marketing In 30 Days

This Guerrilla Marketing book is co-authorised by Al Lautenslager who is probably the highest profile Guerrilla Marketing Coach.

While I love the idea of implementing Guerrilla Marketing one step at a time over a 30 day intensive period, I found the writing style in this book very difficult. When I was reading it for my review, I never made it past day 12 because I was finding it so irritating.

However many people on Amazon.com seem to rate Guerrilla Marketing In 30 Days very highly. I should also say that I have found myself using Guerrilla Marketing in 30 Days as a reference book for my coaching and it has surged a purge in my business book library.

Guerrilla Marketing In 30 Days Review

My advice is to treat with caution and if you are new to Guerrilla Marketing, begin with the Startup Guide To Guerrilla Marketing.

Guerrilla Marketing During Tough Times

This Guerrilla Marketing book by Jay Conrad Levinson is highly relevant in today's economic conditions and can be bought as either a PDF through Nitro Marketing or as a bound book from Amazon.

I think this is excellent and recommend that anyone who is worried about how the recession will affect their business should read Guerrilla Marketing During Tough Times.

You can buy it from Amazon.com or as a PDF through Guerrilla Marketing During Tough Times (which gives you a chance to read a chapter for free).

Startup Guide To Guerrilla Marketing

This Guerrilla Marketing book is attributed to Jay and Jeannie Levinson (his wife) and acts as a practical introduction to the ideas of Guerrilla Marketing.

There are a lot of similarities between the Startup Guide To Guerrilla Marketing and the Guerrilla Marketing Jumpstart Toolkit which I use as the base for my Guerrilla Marketing Coaching.

Not surprisingly I see this Guerrilla Marketing book as an excellent way to start and you can read my full review:
